The Putt-Putt is a homemade vehicle built in the 1950's by my grandfather and uncles.
It started life as a late 1940's Crosley car. The body was removed and some
of the frame was cut out to make it smaller. A wooden body was constructed and
initially it was powered by the engine from a Cushman scooter hooked up
to the original 3-speed transmission with a V-belt and chain.
The car was "restored" in the early 1970's with a Jeep-style grille and a
Tecumseh 7 hp engine with a homebuilt electric starter was installed. Currently it has a newer 8 hp Tecumseh engine.
The Putt-Putt was loaned to me and arrived at my home in June 2002 in fairly good
condition. After rebuilding the carb it started right up and ran well. The brakes
did not work since all the brake cables were frozen, and the woodwork was definately starting to show its age. There were also many loose or missing nuts and bolts.
I decided to restore what needed fixing the best I could.
